Investigating a Snake Skin
What an awesome impromptu science lesson my friends received today! Thank you Mrs. Fran Bolen, Gracie's aunt, for providing us with the most amazing specimen of a snake skin I've ever seen. We could even see the eyes! We had plenty of time to ask questions and examine it. We are super excited because we get to keep it for our class science center. The shedding of skin, or ecdysis, occurs in all reptiles including snakes. It is a natural process associated with growth. We discussed how big this snake must be now. Mrs. Fran even brought a measuring tape to demonstrate how she measured the skin. It was 4 feet long!

Using our Senses to Explore Timmy the Tortoise
Timmy our Tortoise gave each friend an opportunity to explore more about him using their senses. My friends observed Timmy up close & felt his rough protective shell. They could hear him crawl across a Lego board using his claws. We ended our Pet & Popsicle Party with a great smelling and tasting treat. A wonderful end to a great week learning about our 5 senses!

Our 1st of Many Chemical Reactions
Our 1st of many chemical reactions this year after reading “My Mouth is a Volcano”. My friends loved creating erupting volcanoes as an extension to the text! We've only just begun.

Rockets
Like NASA engineers, we built rockets and launched them today! Well ours were a little different, as they were made of paper, but it gave us the opportunity to investigate and explore stability, air pressure, aerodynamics, and much more! We had so much fun learning! We love Sensational Science Fridays!
