Happy National STEM Day!

We put on our engineering hats & created structures from cranberries to represent Native American structures at the time of the Pilgrims arrival in the new land.

Solar S’mores

We learned about solar energy & created a "Solar Cooker" to make s’mores. I strive for hands -on & active engagement with my young students. Hands-on learning increases student engagement, motivation, and retention. This activity was so fun and yummy, too.

Arachnids

We loved investigating arachnids this week. We composed a song about arachnids & concluded our studies by making edible spiders.  Yummy!

Apples, Apples, Apples

We are having a wonderful week tasting, investigating and experimenting with apples. We learned about the legend of Johnny Appleseed and celebrated his birthday. It was fun to pretend to be part of the "Appleseed" family and wear paper pots on our heads with our "Appleseed" names. We taste tested three different apples and voted on our favorite. We enjoyed applesauce and apple cider. We loved making apple prints and were suprised to discover “stars"inside of apples! Next week, we will begin observations of an apple in the process of decaying. We are developing skills related to asking questions, conducting experiments, drawing conclusions and sharing our findings. All while having so much fun along the way!  I am constantly amazed at how much my friends retain.  It's great to "BEE" in kindergarten!

International Dot Day

We had a wonderful time celebrating International Dot Day! We put on our engineering caps and designed structures using dots. I have awesome engineers in my class! My friends designed some amazing structures with Dot candy. “Just make a mark and see where it takes you”― Peter H. Reynolds, The Dot.

Volcano

My Busy Bees enjoyed creating our first chemical reaction in class. We read the story, My Mouth is a Volcano and became chemists creating a chemical reaction. We made a volcano and mixed substances to observe an eruption. Chemical reactions are always so much fun to create and fascinating for children to observe!
